The Story
Broken Creek’s new single ‘Dislodge’ is an upbeat country-folk love letter to long stretches of dusty highway and winding mountainous back roads; inspired by Erin Heycox’s (Vocals/Violin) first solo road trip it celebrates that fear tinged thrill of venturing out in the world solo.
“It’s like a 70s road trip film and indie coming-of-age drama rolled into one” says Lachlan Heycox (Banjo/Guitar),
“Roadtrips often mark moments of change” adds Erin, “so ‘Dislodge’ is an anthem for those busting to shake up something in their lives”.
The sound is a tribute to the great Americana and Australiana recordings of Alison Krauss, Sara Storer, Norman Blake and Willie Nelson with flat picking guitar, hot fiddle licks, rolling banjo and double bass from Nick Henderson (The Good Behaviours).
“Dislodge is perfect for our opening track of our new album Yeah Nah” says Erin Heycox, “We started recording the album after jumping into our camper trailer for a three month tour across Australia.
The single was recorded in Erin and Lachlan’s home studio on the Lancaster farm in Picola. At the end of 2023 they successfully crowdfunded the money needed to complete the recordings and have the album mixed by Mischa Hernan and mastered by Myles Mumford.
Dislodge is the third single from Broken Creek’s’ second studio album Yeah Nah, following their 2023 single ‘The Gathering Wool’ and wistful single ‘Dislodge’
