Songwriting
Folk songs are songs of people, places and history. Broken Creek will equip you with songwriting tools to take a story (real or legendary), a place or a slice of history and transform it into an original song.
You will come away with many ways to play with imagery, melody, rhyme, rhythm and chord progressions to tell your stories.
-
Tune Writing
A tune can start from many different places - from distilling the melodic essence of existing songs, from a catchy chord progression, a rhythm on the street, a dance or from an image.
Broken Creek will break down approaches to composing original tunes drawing from diverse global instrumental traditions. By the end of the workshop, you will have developed an original two part tune with variations and ornaments.
